About a month ago, a well-known motivational YouTube filmmaker,
Dhar Mann, released a video about an autistic person who gets hired to work at a local restaurant. Due to his autism, he cannot speak and therefore uses an iPad application to communicate with the people around him. As he tries to help out around the place, all intentions perfectly normal, his boss tries to humiliate and embarrass him, and eventually tries to have him fired. The ending...
Well, I am not going to spoil it for you but you can watch it
here if you'd like.
After seeing that video, I kept watching it various times and just a few days ago, wrote a poem based on the video which I am sharing here. I hope you enjoy it.
And remember, "Autism is not a disability. It's just... a different ability."

Autism Able - Poem
I may be different from you,
Yes, I may learn in another way.
But still, I am just like you
And I’m just going about my day.
You may ridicule me, embarrass me,
Speak behind my back
And while your words may hurt,
remember
You are only hurting yourself; you
are under your own attack.
It is called autism
This condition that makes me
different from others
And when you see me, I am a stranger
Strangely we aren’t brothers.
It hurts to see this happen
To people who have a disability,
because it’s not their fault if they do.
So, reach out, give a hand.
To me, from you
One thing they failed to teach you
One thing you fail to see
It’s that
Autism IS NOT a disability
It’s just…
A different ability.
