You Can't Blend in When You Were Born to Stand Out: A Wonder Poem - Part 1

I don't know how many of you are familiar with the book or movie "Wonder" originally written by R.J. Palacio about a young boy with facial deformity who has to try and fit in to a mainstream school for the first time in his life. The impact is has had on me from when I first read the book and watched the movie, has been like a subtle presence that welcomes itself back in my heart whenever I choose to take another glimpse at it.

Having such an interest in the concept of the original story, led to me writing three poems, a little over a year or two ago. I thought I would share them all on here throughout this week.

So, I hereby welcome you to "Yitzy Schweitzer's Wonder Week". Every poem I share throughout this week will be based on the genius that is R.J Palacio's "Wonder"

Enjoy the first one titled "You can't blend in when you were born to stand out - Part 1" (the second poem coming soon...)

You Can't Blend in When You Were Born to Stand Out- Part 1

Stop trying to blend in,
Stop being afraid!
Show the world your power,
Because your power is great!

Don't hide in someone else's painting,
Their story, shadow, their glory,
Because if THEY can be successful,
So can you!
So write your own story!

Don't you know?
Don't you see?
Your powers are great!
Just like you will be!
Don't hide,
No, don't be shy,
Cause you know what life is all about?
Showing people:
You can't blend in when you were born to stand out.
