Sunlight on the Rocks - Poem

One of the greatest things poetry allows me to do is to explore many topics and concepts freely, taking an idea that speaks to me, expanding the concept and then allowing the ink to flow and the pen to move along the lines of the page, as my thoughts and words come to life in their own unique and, I hope, genuine, way.

Earlier this week, my teacher gave me an idea for a poem based on the prompt "Sunlight on the Rocks" which I have chosen to share here.

I hope you enjoy it

Sunlight on the Rocks - Poem

Near the bus stop by my house
Every day, when I pass it I see
Two large rocks
Strangers sit there
Taking a moment to unwind
Looking out into the streets

When evening comes
This is where I go to take a seat
Watching the sun disappear
Over the horizon

As I leave, I look back
Upon those rocks
And I remember
They were once plastered with sunlight,
Warmed in the rays
And now the sun is resting, evening has come

Yet the dawn of the time called tomorrow
Will come
And soon, I will see again
The sunlight on the rocks
