Tears by the Wall - Poem

Whenever anyone I know goes to visit Israel, I always ask them if they plan to visit the Kotel (Western Wall) to pray there. Alongside that request, I also tell people that when they do visit the Western Wall they should go at night, due to the fact that when one goes to the wall at night, it is much more peaceful and serene. It is just the person, the wall in all it's glory and G-d listening out for a prayer...

Recently, one of my teachers' sons went to the Western Wall and a couple of days later, my teacher showed me a picture of him standing by the ancient stones, in prayer. I was inspired to write something later that night based of the beauty of that picture, which will discuss just how wonderfully inspiring it is to pray at this great place.

I am so thankful to share it with you,

I hope you find it enjoyable,

Tears by the Wall - Poem

Standing by the wall,
Stories written on the many stones,
Thousands of years,
Full of happiness and fears,
The wall keeps a secret, nobody knows.

People come pray by this wall,
To pour their heart out, with love,
At the ground of the Western Wall,
The prayers soar straight to the throne above.

You’ve come to pray,
To pour fourth your feelings, today,
By this wall.
But as you stand there,
No words come out.
Not one at all.

Just what can you say?
What words must you choose?
To tell G-d about the joy
Or, the terrible, painful blues?

Suddenly, you begin to cry,
Tears from your eyes, they fall,
You cannot get a single word out,
Yet the tears are the words of the soul.
