The Purim Feast - Purim Tish Dvar Torah 2022

Hi Everyone

I would firstly like to start off this post by saying that I hope everyone is doing great and that they enjoyed their purim. I hope you got some wonderful gifts and enjoyed the time you spent with your families and friends.

Also, any of you got drunk? Let me know. Don't be embarrassed to share that with me.

Anyway...

On to the real reason of this post.

Earlier this week, in honor of purim, my school held a "Purim Rebbe's Tish" where everyone was welcome to participate in every way. We cast a vote for our "Purim Rebbe" and after he was chosen (By the way, he did a great job), everyone else could be given a different positions based on what they asked for. There were positions for Rosh Yeshiva, Rosh HaKollel, Gabo'im and more. I was chosen as Rosh Kollel and was also asked to speak.

Here is the short five-minute Dvar Torah I said over. I am so excited to share it.

Hope you like it.

The Purim Feast - Purim Tish Dvar Torah 2022
Everyone knows that on Purim there are four special mitzvos we do. They are: Megila reading, Mishloach Manos, (giving gifts) Matonos Le'evyonim, (charity, and Mishteh (having a feast).

My question today is what is the significance of having a feast on this day? What is so special about it? I mean after all there are other times a year we have a meal, such as the Pesach Seder, the meal on sukkos in the Sukah, as well as on Rosh Hashana. We also eat a special Shabbos meal every week, as well having supper every day. So why can't we just have supper, like every day? Why do we have a feast, the special meal, on this day?

The answer I came up with is that, one of the first things mentioned in the megila that angered Hashem and that began the whole decree, was when the Jews went to Achashveroshs' party even when Mordechai told them not to, (at this point I stopped and turned to my Menahel and asked if "Rebbe, I think you would agree with me that it is important to listen to your Rov, or community leader if he tells you to do the right thing?") and that made Hashem angry which began the whole decree. Similarly, Haman HaRosha and he his evil scheme to kill all the Jews were exposed at Queen Esther's feast she made for Acheshverosh and Haman.

So we see, that one of the ways the miracle of Purim came about is through a feast.

In the same way, we carry on the tradition and have our feast, firstly to correct the actions of our ancestors long ago, but also to remember the miracle in that way. We compliment this meal with all these special mitzvos, so as a way of giving us merit, in the same way the Jews received salvation, through praying, learning and doing good deeds

I hope you enjoyed your Purim.
