Cast Away Those Chains - Poem

On his newest album released this year Lag Beomer, Yoni Z, a popular American singer, songwriter and composer, features a song entitled "Crown" which was written to bring out the important message, that each of us, no matter who we are or what we do, are children of the one and only, supreme king of kings, Hashem.

We are the princess and princesses gracing the kingdom of G-d each of us tasked with fulfilling an individualized  royal mission or duty, to enlighten the world and alert others to the fact that G-d is the Al-mighty, one and only, singularly  awesome and powerful king. We must embrace this mission with love and pride and show the world just how amazing it is to be apart of a royal family, to be... a Jewish Prince.

One of the lines of the song which are, "Cast away those chains and remember your own name" helped inspire the premise of the poem written below. I hope that you enjoy reading it, just as I enjoyed writing it.

Cast Away Those Chains - Poem

In a land so foreign and far,
You sit in darkness, a prisoner,
In shackles, unable to move freely.
Days go on by,
Lost in a whirlwind of unknown time,
You’re unable to breathe.

But don’t be scared
Because although now you are trapped
The walls around you will soon break.
All but a distant dream,
The pain replaced by abundant joy
Not long now, will you wait.

Your freedom will be here soon…

Cast away those chains
The dawn is rushing in so fast
The world is alive, now
You have a chance to escape
To be a free man at last
An opportunity to thrive now

Run now to the door
Run away from the terror inside
And let joy come and greet you
Embrace the freedom
Feel the sun warm up your face
Shining just for you.
