Dancing With The Torah - Poem
During the Simchas Torah Hakofos this year in my shul, I was honored to hold one of the scroll during the second round of the dancing. This was something quite dear to me as the scroll I held was written by my grandfather and it holds a special place within my family. Anyhow, while I was moving my way through the room, one of my friends suggested I write a poem based around a concept of Hakofos. After the festival ended, I put together some concepts and just let the cogs turn until I had the right one.

Dancing With The Torah - Poem
Walking towards the podium,
My hands stretch out,
Almost with a mind of their own,
My legs effortlessly move me forward,
As if I am floating,
And I can feel a sense of joy,
Rippling throughout my bones.
I take the Sefer Torah,
And hold it in my hands, tenderly,
In this moment, it is just me and the sacred scroll,
Sefer Torah, now it is just you and me.
I bring it close, into a hug,
And look up toward the heavens,
I whisper a silent prayer, asking G-d to protect me,
Protect me and protect my nation, forever.
As the crowd starts to dance,
I step forward to join them,
I kiss the scroll one more time
An eternal connection between me, my nation and Hashem
