Rav Chaim Kanievsky zt'l:: One Year On - Essay
Hi All,
The following essay you are going to read was written as an "on-the-spot" essay to showcase my thoughts as Klal Yisroel gather, both together and in spirit to commemorate the first Yarzheit of the Gadol Hador, HaGaon HaRav Shmaryahu Yosef Chaim Kanievsky zt'l who passed away one year ago today, on Shushan Purim 2022 (5782).
I hope to write this essay as honestly and as respectfully as I can to honor the lofty and exalted soul of,
HaGaon HaRav Shmaryahu Yosef Chaim ben Yaakov Yisroel Kanievsky zt'l
Rav Chaim Kanievsky zt'l: One Year On - Essay
Now, those moments which these people were blessed to have carry new meaning and weight.
Those moments, irreplaceable, are worth infinity which explains why they cannot be sold, or bought for any price, because the value of spending even a moment with Rav Chaim was priceless.
Those stories, articles and Divrei Chizuk, are in their own way, also priceless.
And who could even think of putting a price on the Daas Torah of Rav Chaim? No one, as that too is priceless.
Rav Chaim, although he is no longer with us, his memory and his undying love for his Torah and fellow Jews will live forever with us. We will treasure it, as we should, until the day when the piercing sound of the Shofar Shel Mashiach is heard.
And when we see Rav Chaim again... our souls will dance again.
Yehi Zichro Baruch.
I can still remember that day. Shushan Purim 2022 (5782). I received the news of Rav Chaims passing via a text message and was shocked. I checked online to see if any reports from Israeli and Jewish media had been released. Although there was some reports, I was unwilling to believe them. It could not be... no it could not.
But alas, it was true.
One year on and the world, although heeled from the outside, is still reeling inside. Our Neshamos still weep and our hearts still ache, as we think about the fact that Rav Chaim is gone. Those stories we've heard and will hear and those articles we've read and will read, hold now a connection so deep, true and loving, impossible to write out in to words, but not so impossible to feel.
Because we do feel it. It is there, somewhere deep within our soul.
We miss that sense of majesty, coupled effortlessly with humility. Those soft, sparkling, no, glowing eyes, staring into the chambers of our souls and the souls of our brothers and sisters who needed a salvation. The angelic face with that signature soft smile, radiating love, respect and kedusha all at once. The incredible Daas Torah, coupled with the diligence and love for learning. Everything and anything about Rav Chaim...
Oh, we miss it. Yes indeed we do.
When one walked in to the room in the house on Rechov Rashbam, one was able to feel and understand, that before him stood a giant. A giant in Torah, a giant in Ahavas Yisrael. A giant whose knowledge and Ahavas Torah, no one ever had or will ever have. A giant whose spirit inspired others. A giant, whose spiritual fountain of love spilled over, in gallons and floods, pouring itself on to the hearts and into the the thirsty souls, who came from all over, for a moment with him.
But alas, it was true.
