Give Us Life, So We Can Come Home - Poem

As we get near to the awesome day of Yom Kippur, our desires as individuals and as a nation to achieve atonement for our wrongdoings, be sealed in the book of life and to be able this year to bring Moshiach, has never been stronger. We beseech our Father in Heaven in utmost hope that he will hear us clearly and answer us with everything we need, want, hope and more, doing so tenfold.

For this years Yom Kippur poem, I wanted to tap in to the emotional prayer of Ne'eilah, the final prayer of the day, the prayer in which the spirit is, in my experience, the most aroused and awake, the prayer said at the time of the closing of the heavenly gates, when we beg G-d to please allow us in through those gates, so that when the closing is complete, we, as individuals and nation can be inside, inscribed with unimaginable love and blessing, in the book of life, with G-d's signature by our name.

I hope all of you have an easy, uplifting and inspiring fast and may the wish of Am Yisrael be realised in all of its glory this year.

Give Us Life, So We Can Come Home - Poem
Praying silently, with intentions good,
Being as sincere as we could,
Hoping that G-d would,
Grant us a year of life.
A year of peace, love and care,
With all the blessings in the air,
The year he will take us there,
To our city, of golden heights.

The cries are heard, through the prayer shawls,
Soft whispers of the soul,
Begging G-d to hear our call,
To give us a year of life,
As His children, we ask, "Oh, Father dear
Won't you already make it clear?"
May it be this very year,
That you reveal your light.

Oh, please give us life,
So we can stand tall,
Arise when we fall,
Wash away the tears and strife,
Oh, please answer us now,
Hear our silent shout,
As our hearts call out,
To You, on high.

We are not perfect, that we know,
But we still hope, this year we will go,
To our holy temple of old,
Full of energy and life.
We are not angles, but we are Your nation,
Don't our deeds allow us salvation?
Don't you, father dear, want this revelation,
Don't you want to end this night?

Oh, please give us life,
So we can stand tall,
Arise when we fall,
Wash away the tears and strife,
Oh, please answer us now,
Hear our silent shout,
As our hearts call out,
To You, on high.

Oh we ask for a year, so precious and pure,
As maybe this year we can break down the door,
Praising you, we will march forth,
Please hear us now,
The gates are closing, at the time of this prayer,
Don't leave us unanswered out there,
Allow us all in, into your embrace and care,
A year of life, let it be ours
