The Best Shield - Psalms Chapter 7 - Tehilim Poetry
For this week, I wanted to return to my Tehilim Poetry series, as I look to create a piece based off the seventh chapter of King Davids timeless words.
The seventh chapter is full of many beautiful verses and glorious poetic invites, however after much thinking, I have chosen to write a piece based off the verse, "מָגִנִּ֥י עַל־אֱלֹ-הִ֑-ים מ֝וֹשִׁ֗יעַ יִשְׁרֵי־לֵֽב" which translates to mean "My shield is upon G-d, Who saves the upright in heart". I originally thought those words to mean that King David is protecting G-d with his shield. I was slightly conflicted by that thought, for as we all know, G-d is the shield, protector and guardian of all living things. So how to the words of King David match up?
My Rebbe offered a different approach, one with which I agreed more. He said he believed the words, "my shield is upon G-d" to mean, that G-d will provide a shield for David. G-d will make the decision to protect King David and so, "my shield is upon G-d" is it in His hands, whether he shields me or not.
To than close out the second half of the verse, my Rebbe suggested, which I clarified that the words "Who saves the upright in heart" means that if we serve G-d with the correct feelings and understanding, if we are "upright", morally true and sincere in our service of G-d, than G-d will stand with us during hardships and protect us, with love, just as we showed him when we so beautifully performed good deeds and learnt His Torah.
So, with all that in mind, I hope the poem is true to the words and does not disappoint.

The Best Shield - Psalms Chapter 7 - Tehilim Poetry
Sometimes, the battlefield swarms,
With enemies coming at me from all sides,
Sometimes, it gets a little bit scary,
When those who seek my downfall take me by surprise.
Its hard sometimes to focus, to believe,
Ira difficult to be positive when morale is low,
Sometimes it feels like there is no where to run,
Nowhere to go.
But, I know deep inside, that whatever may come,
The shadow of destruction won't take me,
For I believe in G-d, I know he is with me now,
I recognize how he shields me.
All those miracles and wonders,
Are not just coincidence, for some Higher force is behind it,
I know exactly how this happened, I know exactly why,
Ir is G-d who orchestrated it.

He protects His holy nation,
Whom he crowned at Sinai, with thunder and with glory,
He is my shield, my protector, he fights with me,
He is helping me write my story.
My enemies fall, and I keep arising,
Maybe hurt, but I know I'll be fine,
If I keep believing in the One above, no matter what may come,
His shield will be with me all the time.
