Safe Travels, Old Friend - Poem
I hope those ideas won't sit back and disappear and that one day, I will be able to convey them in a lyrically pleasing way.
As expected for our narrator, saying goodbye to his dearest friend is a challenge, but he feels as though he must say some form of farewell. He expresses happiness and a fondness towards their many shared memories of fun and joviality and then expresses his hope for his friend to be happy, wherever this new part of life will direct him.
I invite you to travel along a beautiful road of memories, emotion and hope.
I wish you a pleasant read,
Yitzy Schweitzer
Dear friend,
It's been years,
To many to count,
That we've known each other,
I don't think,
Its quite wrong for me to say,
In that time, we became like brothers,
We laughed,
We vibed,
We just lived with a smile,
My friend,
Having you by my side,
Made everything worthwhile.
True friends are rare,
That Is something,
So many tell,
It does not take a genius,
To work out,
They mean their words well.
Because I've never had,
Another friend who was,
Exactly like you,
That could only mean,
That out friendship,
Was true.
Now, it's time,
To say goodbye,
As you move away from home,
To distant lands,
Miles away,
Untouched and unknown,
It's tough, no lying,
I want you to stay,
But I know you must go,
So I give you this letter,
I give you this hug,
I love you, more than you'd ever know.
A small tear,
Leaves my eye,
As I watch your car turn around the bend,
I raise my hand,
A silent goodbye,
Safe travels, old friend
