The Surprise of Redemption - Subscribers Poetry Inspiration 2023-24 Poem 11

I recently asked a very dear subscriber of mine for a concept that I could use as this month "Subscriber Poetry Inspiration" starting point. After a few minutes of discussion together we came up with this.

The subscriber in question wanted a poem detailing how deep within the galus, despite all the pain and struggles, we now redemption is coming, but we don't know when. He wanted to really bring the surprise and comfort we will feel as individual people and as a nation, to the page.

After some time, I composed the piece. Featuring eight stanzas, the first four are about the despair, uneasiness and sadness felt as this galus gets evermore harder to navigate through. I also make a reference to the fact that despite trying to hold on to hope believing Mashiach will come, the temptations and tests of exile are extremely difficult to the extent that on many occasions that small flicker of hope disappears.

The next group of stanzas create a burst of comfort and peace as the time of redemption is described to the best of my ability. I tried to convey that on the day of the Geula, our narrator of this poem is so very broken and downtrodden, but with the sound of the shofar reaching his ears, as if on cue, yet by a welcome surprise all his pain evaporate, as though it never was there. Our narrator then describes his feelings as the air of redemption and the reality of it takes shape on the world for all eternity.

I hope you find the poem enjoyable,

May we this year, very soon, see the Geula, the real Geula, happen before our eyes.

Have an amazing week ahead with all the blessings,

The Surprise of Redemption - Subscribers Poetry Inspiration 2023-24 Poem 11

Why does the world feel,

Like it's falling apart?

With each passing second, I hear the word,

Of tragedies breaking my heart,

I know of the time they speak of,

The future they say will come,

When G-ds glory will encapsulate,

When the world will become one,

So many clouds in the sky,

Many days dark and cold,

I was young just yesterday,

My tears and worries turned me old,

I hear the voices of calm calling,

Telling me he will come one day,

But for the hundredth time, I ask,

How long must I wait.

Why is this promise,

Not yet been kept,

When the terrors of the world,

Seem to not ever relent,

Won't sorrow soon leave us,

Why has it remained, this unfaithful guest,

Laughing with glee as we succumb,

To yet another test?

Why do our tears fall,

Only to go unanswered,

Our struggles lead us away,

From the path supposed to bring us closer,

Is now, this moment not the time,

To redeem your nation, your family,

Please answer us,

We wait, yet again patiently.

At dawn one sunny day,

Not so long after writing this,

I woke up one morning,

Feeling lost and unfocused

But upon walking Into the garden,

I heard the sound, I have been hoping to hear so long,

Relief in an instant,

The happiest of songs.

The moment I always believes in,

Finally now is here,

Every question answered so lovingly,

Each test, the reason clear,

The world stands in awe,

As Am Yisrael beams with pride,

Standing as one,

At our father's side.

Oh, after an eternal battle of suffering,

Victory fell our way,

Gone is our exile,

Here now, comes redemption to stay,

Living in reality,

A time that is no longer a dream,

From my mind, once,

Now, in real time, it is seen.

Standing outside the beis hamikdash,

The service under way,

Everything is as you and I hoped it would,

Even better in the light of day,

But I will never forget that one moment,

When the rush of joy came, the surprise,

As my dream came alive, before my very eyes.
