Light On The Hill - Poem

Earlier this week, while browsing, I came across a short clip of a non-Jewish man, who shall remain nameless based off my personal choices, talking about how the world is inspired, impacted, and encouraged by how Jewish People, specifically, in this case Israelis, keep their faith, keep telling their story, always being a light for others to follow.

To quote this man exactly:

"As Jews in Israel, are you telling the greatest story ever told? Well, you decide that by how you live and that decision will affect the world, because everyone looks here - for one reason or another, it's not so easy to understand - everyone looks here to see, 'Well how are you actually doing under this tremendous assault of adversarial criticism?' and I think it is true in some real sense that the fate of the world depends on the decisions of the people of Israel, just as the fate of the world depends on the decisions of every individual, so you make yourself a shining light on the hill right? You attract people here because of what you're capable of doing. You show the world what the holy city could look like, because we need it. We need it, and it's up to you to do it"

In the clip, towards the end of that statement the man became emotional and his voice trembled. It was deeply inspiring and deeply soothing to hear those words from him and later on in the day, I was inspired by the phrase he used, "A shining light on the hill", and I decided to create and compose, a poem to encapsulate that message and with G-ds assistance, to make the message a small part of me.

I hope you connect with this completed piece in your own way. I'd love to hear your feedback, if you do not mind sharing it.

Have a relaxing day,

Light On The Hill - Poem

In a beautiful city,

So rich in colours and creed,

One day, terror entered,

The innocent began to bleed.

The world turned away,

False friends became true foes,

As the holy, wonderius city,

Was left on its own.

Fighting a war, against evil,

In its most monstrous of forms,

Some lost hope, some gave up,

For they were shattered, shaken and torn,

But so many gave them a hand,

So many picked them back up,

Because a broken puzzle isn't complete,

Until all the spaces are filled, every single one.

As a nation, we became stronger,

As a people, we became closer,

As a family, our bonds intensified,

As our brilliant light became ever brighter.

A shining light on a deserted hill,

The Jewish People stand as one,

We are never alone, never ever,

For our unity, keeps us strong,

When we tap into our powers,

Of unity, love, peace and grace,

G-ds glory is us, His children,

A brilliant smile is seen upon his face.

So become a light on this hill,

Join, the many sparks of life,

To create the most beautiful glow,

Of a nation who never shines, nor stands, alone.
