The Child, The Old Man, and the Kind Deed - Psalms Chapter 9 - Tehilim Poetry

After a while away, it is time to revisit the world of Tehilim Poetry. Continuing from where we left off, the last perek we worked with was number eight, so logically its time to move on to perek nine.

In this ninth perek, there were many great verses that stuck out but the one which I ultimately ended up choosing was כִּ֤י לֹ֣א לָ֭נֶצַח יִשָּׁכַ֣ח אֶבְי֑וֹן תִּקְוַ֥ת (ענוים) [עֲ֝נִיִּ֗ים] תֹּאבַ֥ד לָעַֽד"׃", which translates to "For the needy shall not be forgotten forever, neither shall the hope of the poor be lost to eternity". As I was mentally constructing a concept for this poem, all the while trying to encapsulate the message of this verse I was privileged to choose, I came up with a few.

Firstly, I tried writing about different people: a lost, starving child, a poor man, a brokenhearted man, a hungry beggar - all different people struggling with hardships, with no way of knowing what could come next, but something keeps them hopeful. Something keeps there spirits up.

It is this verse. This verse keeps them believing.

The other concept was to write about a poor, hungry, lonely child, who goes around looking for food all day, with no success, until sundown when a kind old man takes him home and cares for him, at least until morning. Based on the title, you can probably see and guess I ended up working with this one.

I hope I did the concept justice and allowed the verse to be expressed truthfully and honestly.

I wish a pleasant reading experience and all the best,

The Child, The Old Man, and the Kind Deed - Psalms Chapter 9 - Tehilim Poetry

A poor child, in rags,
Wanders sadly through the streets,
No home, no one with him,
All he asks is for something to eat.

Strangers pity him,
Yet they cannot offer him much,
But they give him a smile,
For some time, that alone, is enough,

Yet, he is still hungry,
He’s been so, all day,
As evening falls around the city,
A small tear falls, as if to wash the sadness away.

Well, let me tell you,
Some say that’s just what that single tear did that night,
Because when an old man saw the tear fall,
He knew he must help the child, he must put things right.

He took him home, where he gave him to eat,
Gave him a bed to sleep in,
He gave the boy just what he was looking for,
Because the old man knew kindness, he believed in it

He gave the boy what he needed,
Simply because it was right so to do,
It did not matter, if he was, rich or poor, young or aged,
He was human, just like me and you

King David says, that the needy won’t be forgotten forever,
He says, the hope of the poor, won’t be lost to eternity,
Why? You may ask, well the answer, it is simple,
It’a because G-d watches over His children, showing them love, kindness and mercy.
