Sing For Who You Are - Poem

 I was browsing through some videos this week when I came across one of a young man telling somebody that within a few years, all being well, he will be a very successful person. This young man had a dream to be successful, have good money and make the people around him proud.

Or in his words "I'll be somebody soon".

When the person he was telling this to heard him say those last words, he immediately replied, in a soft, gentle voice "But, you are somebody now, aren't you?"

Hearing that question, my brain began putting certain pieces together and with the kindness of Hashem, after a couple good minutes, I finally had the finished poem, which I titled "Sing For Who You Are". I was sharing it with a friend and he remarked that the message of the poem is something that is perfect to keep in mind for Rosh Hashana, so I told him, I'll share it and here it is.

Keep believing in yourself, because remember, YOU are still somebody,

Sing For Who You Are - Poem

There is a reason why you believe,

Because you know, what is right,

There is a reason why we believe in you,

Because we share the strength of the dream, the might.

We know, the somebody you'll be,

Is waiting before your eyes,

Ready to emerge, with G-d will,

To embrace the world, to create a beautiful light.

But that somebody is not here yet,

He will be soon, oh, and how,

But you just keep believing, keep moving,

Because even if your not where you want to be yet, your still somebody now.

You are the light, the reason of love,

You are the comfort to the hurt and lonely,

Your smile is but warmth to the coldest souls,

You're heart is the beat, voice us melody.

Sing for who you are,

Because you are unique,

Sing for the past and future you,

Because you cannot escape your history.

Sing for your dreams,

Sing for the achievements,

Sing for the somebody you are,

Because, only you make the you of now, complete.

You may look at yourself,

Believing you are not yet where you need to be,

But little do you know, you'll get there someday,

Right now, you're here, just where you are, with me.

Be encouraged by who you are,

Let that make you stronger,

Be the song of life in silence,

Be the flame that shall burn for longer.
