A Hug in the Sukkah - Poem

As we now find ourselves celebrating Sukkos, I wanted to try my hand at writing something to do with sitting in the Sukkah. As the elements outside become more apparent to us - due to our venture from within our homes to this "room" or "home" of sorts - we begin to feel that there is something quite magical, something quite heartwarming, about the Sukkah. There is just that something.

We don't know what it is. We just feel it.

But Rabbi YY Jacobson, the famed lecturer and prolific kiruv personality, shares what he thinks this feeling is.

To quote him directly:
The word סכה - ס-כ-ה (is spelled that way) because there are three ways to build a סכה. The ס (symbolizes) around and around, because you have four walls, כ is three walls, and the ה is two walls and the leg of the third wall. That's the hug!

The Arizal says "The reason a Sukkah is enough with two full walls and a bit of a third wall is because it says in Shir HaShirim "His right arm embraces me". If you take a look at an arm, how many walls does an arm have? From the shoulder to the elbow, is one wall than from the elbow to the wrist is a second wall and than the wrist itself is a third wall. That 's a Sukkah!"

After Hashem sent that clip my way, I knew I had found, with the help of the Most Kind, a concept deserving of a poem, so after some building (haha, get it?) I had my "Sukkah Poem" up and ready to go.

I now invite you to read it.

Have an amazing rest of your Yom Tov.

May Hashem soon build the real Sukkas Dovid in Yerushalayim, speedily in our days.

All the best,

A Hug in the Sukkah - Poem

Sitting in the Sukkah,

The night is chilled yet the heart is warm,

Embraced by the atmosphere of light,

Embraced by the four walls,

They say, the Sukkah is a hug,

An expression of love by the Al-mighty,

For within the bright confines of the Sukkah,

There is a warmth, rich, pure, heavenly.

That warmth is a gift,

A decoration on the walls of our home away from home,

For even beyond our own living space,

G-d is with us, just Him, Alone.

So, if you can, feel His hug,

Feel the beauty of love,

Connect to the greatness of the Divine embrace,

As you watch the blessings come from above.
