Dancing With History - Poem

As the memories of Sukkos and Simchas Torah, find a place to live within our mind, I wanted to share this poem about dancing with the Sefer Torah which I hope you will enjoy

Over the last three years, I have been privileged to be able to dance with my grandfathers Sefer Torah in my shul during the Hakofos. I always enjoy it, as it not only allows me to connect in some way to my grandfather, whose passing was over a decade ago, but it also makes the dancing itself more unique and fresh every time I am able to hold that amazing Sefer Torah.

One of my very dear subscribers, who davens in my shul, mentioned to me as I passed him during the Hakofos that he would like to see a poem based on the beauty and special mitzvah of dancing with the Torah. I agreed to try and compose something and I feel honored and thankful to Hashem that he has allowed me to compose just the right piece.

Based on a prompt, or baseline "Dancing With History", this poem discusses how a Sefer Torah, is more than just a scroll with a fancy cover, a great price tag and awesome and rich quality parchment, but it is the history of the Jewish Nation, the key to our identity as a "Mamleches Kohanim V'goi Kadosh", and a gift from Hashem, to guide us and teach us about the way of life.

I hope yo enjoy the read,

Looking forward to hearing from you.

All the best,

Yitzy Schweitzer

Dancing With History - Poem

Holding the scroll, tightly in my arms,
It is so very special to me,
Because, in but one second, I will dance with it,
Oh, and when I do, I’ll be dancing with history.

You see, because this scroll, or any for that matter,
Holds something far more significant than a nice cover, a great price, or even its quality.
It holds the holy words of G-d, priceless, timeless, so unique in all ways,
It holds the tale of His chosen people, a bright, incredible, rich, story.

But, see, Torah, is not a history book,
Its not supposed to be,
It's our guide through life, teaching us about the commandments and the way of the righteous,
It is the path towards eternal blessing, a gift, a path to understand our identity.

The Torah is the key to connecting,
With a heritage so divine,
Only getting stronger and more exceptional,
With every precious passing second of time.

There are six hundred thousand letters in the Torah,
Everyone of them is needed, everyone of them has a part to play,
Those letters, the words they create, along with the verses and chapters, are eternal,
They won’t ever lose their beauty, not ever, pure and perfect, will they stay.

We are G-d’s people, never will we stop being so,
The Torah, guides us, teaches us, reminds us that we are unique, you see,
So, as I close my eyes, I begin to dance, yes, I wonder if you can see me out there,
Perhaps, won’t you join me, in dancing with our history
