Truth - Poem

I wrote this poem yesterday, (Wednesday) after having a thought about composing a piece about standing up for the truth. I wrote it, half of it, in the morning and the other half, in the late afternoon, completing it in time to share it with you today.

However, I than wanted to try and write a piece for Yom HaShoa, which falls out this week, but could not find the right head space or enough time to do so. Yet, as I write this introduction, I realise that perhaps a poem about the truth is the perfect poem for Yom HaShoa, a day on which we remember the atrocities of the Holocaust and pay respects and tributes to the survivors and fallen victims of this brutal period of Jewish and world history.

Some people like to claim the Holocaust never happened. Yet, the records, the recounting, the trauma and the memories shared by the survivors contradict this. The Holocaust DID happen. It happened. The Nazis, yenach shemam, wanted us gone, destroyed, wiped out, yet we fought, we survived and thrived, while they fell down in a pit of destruction and failure.

A complete failure to destroy us. Because WE ARE STILL HERE!!

Let us pay our respects to those who stand up for the truth of life, the truth of the Torah, the truth of the Holocaust, the truth of our existence and all other truths of the world.

My friends, say it with me, AM YISRAEL CHAI!

We are still alive,

May G-d bless us all with goodness and health,

With appreciation,

Yitzy Schweitzer

Truth - Poem

I'm not afraid to stand up,
Take account of what is right,
Because I know, only the truth,
Will accompany me through the night,
Through all the hours in the dark,
All the times I lie awake,
The truth of the matter,
Will guide me on towards the day,

The truth hurts, they say,
Only if you refuse to believe it
When something is correct,
That's the only way to see it,
Because the last time I checked,
There was never grey, in black and white,
There was never a known darkness,
Until G-d created light.

I'm not afraid, no, not afraid,
To speak my truth, stand proud and tall,
To stand upright and hear the voice,
And answer to the call, that special call,
Oh yeah, the world says lies,
Oh yeah, they tell a tale,
But truth will emerge, and we will fight for it,
We will win, we will fight and prevail.

See, like I told you,
Just as the world is round and spinnin'
People think lies and hate,
Is the way to be winnin',
But the only spinnin' going on there,
Is up in their heads,
They spin a story without truth, without life,
So their stories are dead.

The fact of the matter is,
Hey, I don't care if this hurts you now,
I won't be able to hear you whine,
Over the noise from this great crowd,
Truth will last, as it has,
For all these thousand years,
Nothing is gonna wash it away,
Not even your crocodile tears
