It Was Only Hashem - Poem

In the early 1980's Yerachmiel Begun, the legendary founder, composer and conductor of the Miami Boys Choir, released a standalone album called "Judaea". This album was the fulfillment of a goal of sorts for Yerachmiel, for as Nachum Segal put it during the "Miami Experience 3" concert, "His goal was to organize and compose for a group of musicians and singers, who would be able to handle a more modern variety of musical sound, while still incorporating the message of faith in - and commitment to - Hashem."

Well, the album was released and must have performed quite well, gaining a certain degree of popularity at that time. Today, while not as well-known as some of the more Miami-based hits of that era, one of the songs still quite well known and performed today is "The Hand of Hashem". Placed as the opening track on the album, and performed by the group's lead vocalist, Gershon Veroba, who today is well known as a accomplished singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist - the songs message of Hashem always being there for us, guiding us and performing nature-bending, open miracles for us still rings true, perhaps more so today, as we near the time of Geula and freedom.

Having discovered the inner beauty of the song quite recently I wanted to try and write my own little version of it. The lyrics of the original are nowhere near outdated or badly written, in fact the lyrics of the original are beautiful, true, unique and very well written.

Yet, still I wanted to see if I could write my own version of the song.

I hope you enjoy my "re-imaging of the the original lyrics.

Have a blessed week ahead and may we all see the Geula this year.

My best weishes,

It Was Only Hashem - Poem

From before time, it was always visible,
Maybe not with the naked eye, but it was discernible,
For the world was created, but by One and Only One,
The One who formed, fashioned and gave life to everything and everyone.

Those who believed it wasn’t so, served fire and nature,
But Abraham saw, this was not earthly behavior,
There had to Someone, guiding the worlds every move,
A creator behind it, far superior to sun and moon.

It was only Hashem,
His kingship was shown to him,
It was only Hashem,
Who revealed the truth to him,
Abraham saw, and taught the world to know,
From tent to fire, Hashem is with us wherever we go.

As time wore on, Isaac and Jacob came,
They brought the nation down, the a land bearing another name,
Lived in peace for a while, until the greed came alive,
The Jews became slaves, it seemed so dark, no hope to survive.

But Moses came, a man seemingly not of words,
Yet by His promise, his voice was soon heard,
They saw the miracles, but now they knew from where,
It seemed to come, from Someone who is everywhere.

It was only Hashem,
Who brought the plagues down then,
It was only Hashem,
Who split the sea for them.
From the manna to the wells, it was Him all along,
Some saw and praised, while most of ‘em just played along.

Still today we see His hand, so strong and powerful,
We must recognize and understand, show Him we are grateful,
For despite the sorrows and the tears, He still loves us so,
He does so much for us, so very much, most times more than we’d ever know.

It is only Hashem,
He performed those miracles then,
It is only Hashem,
Who still does perform them,
No one is above Him, His greatness is indescribable,
But from before time, His hand was describable.
