Concert Halls of Heaven - Poem

Earlier this week, I heard a wonderful chiddush in Mitzvah Observance that inspired me to write the poem you are about to read.

The concept was shared by Rabbi Yehoshua Nissan quoting the Holy Tzaddik, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Barditchev, who says "When a Yid takes out his Talis (prayer shawl), to start going through the strings and getting ready to put it on the Malachim (angels) gather and they say 'Everybody, look, look! There is a Yid who is about to put on his Talis!"

Rabbi Nissan continued qouting the Barditchever and said "It's like when one sees a master performer, a master musician and they see him taking his instrument and begin to tune it, people get excited. 'The concert is about to start! Somethings big is about to happen! Look he is tuning his instrument!" they whisper among themselves...

That's the way the Malachim see a Yid getting ready to perform a Mitzvah! When they see us taking out what we need to prepare for the Mitzvah, they start elbowing each other, "Look, look! He is about to do the Mitzvah! She is about to do the Mitzvah! He is about to click to donate! She is going to light the candles!"

Rabbi Nissan closed off this remark saying some simple yet, awesomely magical words, "There is a big concert that's about to go on in Shamayim (heaven) out of those small moments, those small magical nuclear moments of holiness, and the Malachim are going crazy to see it! That is what the Barditchever says!"

Those words inspired me to compose this poem, immortalizing this beautiful concept in rhyme and joyous rhythm, to remember this concept and to share it with you.

I hope you enjoy reading the complete poem.

All of my best wishes to you,

Your Friend,

Yitzy Schweitzer
Concert Halls of Heaven - Poem
When the musician enters the stage,
He takes out his instrument,
Everyone watches and waits with anticipation,
For the music to start, for that glorious moment.
As the music begins the crowd sounds their applause,
They sit back and enjoy the show,
They listen with all their heart and soul,
They follow wherever the music goes.

The same is true in our own lives,
We have our own instruments we can play,
But besides for our gifts and talents,
We have an opportunity to do mitzvos every day,
The crowd is the heavenly court,
The angels of Hashem, our King,
Who sit and watch with admiration and anticipation,
Even as we prepare for our performance to begin.

Every step we take towards prayer,
Every moment of preparation,
The angels watch and they admire,
Our performance fills the halls with jubilation,
Every step we take towards helping our Fellow Jew,
Every time we sit down to study the Torah of Hashem,
The angels watch and they they admire,
Our performance, from the Concert Halls of Heaven.

It's not always the amazing acts,
Those mitzvos that our challenging to do,
But its even the simple ones,
That make the angels so proud of you.
It's walking to shul, when the sun is shining,
It's helping someone get from place to place,
Every moment spent doing that stage of the mitzvah,
The reward given to you for it, is so great.

Every step we take towards prayer,
Every moment of preparation,
The angels watch and they admire,
Our performance fills the halls with jubilation,
Every step we take towards helping our Fellow Jew,
Every time we sit down to study the Torah of Hashem,
The angels watch and they they admire,
Our performance, from the Concert Halls of Heaven.

So, next time you may feel down,
Thinking that you have not done enough,
Remember the small, little moments of kindness,
Remind yourself you performed them with love.
The angels are up there watching YOUR concert,
They are humming and singing along,
Following the journey of your music,
The heavens are rejoicing with your song.
