Waiting in Time - Subscriber Poetry Inspiration 2025-26 Poem 10

A couple of weeks back, a subscriber recommended an idea for me to write about time. I had written a number of poems on that subject, but, as it is with the world of the written word, there is always something more to add.

I left the idea on the side with the intention to return to it at the start of the month and use it as the "Subscriber Poetry Inspiration" piece for the month of Taamuz.

I was fortunate to develop the concept during this time and came up with the idea to write about the End of Days, about how we still await the arrival of Mashiach, even after two thousand long, bitter years. It took a little bit of time for all the pieces of this one to come together but eventually it all did and I am so happy to share it with you now.

I hope you enjoy it.

Have a blessed week ahead,

Your friend,

Yitzy Schweitzer
Waiting in Time - Subscriber Poetry Inspiration 2025-26 Poem 10

We know soon, that the time will come,
When the promise of old will be reality,
But yet, for two thousand years, we’ve hoped, we’ve waited,
While time slips away, mercilessly.

Every day, we rise from our slumber of the night,
Hoping this one to be the moment it changes,
Yet as night falls, our hearts break, our souls mourn,
For still, we are confined by the torture of us waiting.

So many times we’ve been hurt,
All these years of pain, and somehow, maybe, still there is more to arrive,
We know, at the End of Days we will understand,
But seven hundred and thirty thousand days later, we still wait, being mislead and teased by time.

If now, we live in the time of the End of Days,
How many days have to end before the time is but right,
How man seconds more must suffering live, when it only seeks to destroy and take away,
How many more times, but we stay awake in crushed hope for another night.

If the End of Days and the End of Time, is here now,
How can time end when it seems to be infinite and ever so cunning?
Days end, yes, to make way for night,
But time has an evil touch, always ready, up his sleeve is always a little something.

But despite our mistrust of time,
We wait and wait for one day, one day more,
We must remain strong for questions will be answered,
G-d is here with us, waiting with us, He knows what it is we, together, wait for.
