Deep in the Woods, I Made a Friend: A Wonder Poem - Part 3
Hi everyone,
As I approach the end of this great week of poetry-writing for my blog, I am gearing up to share one final poem for "Yitzy Schweitzer's Wonder Week", and well, here it is.
Entitled "Deep in the Woods, I Made a Friend", it tells the story of one of the ending scenes in the film and book, in which the boy with facial deformity gets into a fight (and yes, a physical one) with a bunch of older students while on a camping trip with his class. In the film and book, we see the boy try and defend himself and his friend, yet things quickly go out of hand and the bully shows no mercy and the sight of any of them. He starts to fight.
Until more friends arrive. They step up. Fight. Win. Then, heal the wounds of the past with the boy with facial deformity. Who they had previously bullied to.
I hope you find the poem enjoyable.

Deep in the Woods, I Made a Friend: A Wonder Poem - Part 3
Lost in the woods,
Against trees dark as night
I am just a short, little kid,
With bigger ones in a fight.
Bullied by guys,
So much bigger than me.
Name-calling, face-punching
How much worse could this be?
But then, like a snake,
A silent, slithering, sneaking snake,
The bully leader was down,
His face shoved in the dirt,
In the ground.
The people who saved me,
Had previously treated me wrong.
Mean comments and name-calling,
A venomous and poisonous song.
Yet, in my time of need, something changed.
The music in these kids' song was re-arranged.
Protecting me, they laughed and joked together with me.
Inside me, I felt warm and cozy.
I had friends!
True faithful friends!
And each of them, a hand on my shoulder,
Walked with me, through the dark, around the bends,
To the light!
