You Can't Blend in When You Were Born to Stand Out: A Wonder Poem - Part 2

Hi Everyone,

It's now time for the second post on "Yitzy Schweitzer's Wonder Week" and so I present to you:
"You Can't Blend in When You Were Born to Stand Out - Part 2."

In this poem I describe what happens in a scene in the movie, where the boy with the facial deformity has to deal with being ignored by the rest of the kids in his class. The original scene shows how the students stay out of his way, or avoid going to close to him because of his facial differences.

The camera work is incredible in showing this, because when it is time for dismissal from class in the scene, the camera spins round to reveal an aerial view of the room and you can clearly see boy. Everyone walks away. Some stare at him. None of them acknowledge him.

Yet he is there. But in their eyes he is not. Or not meant to be.

I tried to capture a sense that while this boy is currently alone, there is always room and a reason to hope for a better time. When these boys become a friendly face.

Hope you enjoy it.

You Can't Blend in When You Were Born to Stand Out - Part 2

A boy sitting all alone,
Punch marks, pain written on his face.
Nobody acknowledges him,
As if he is not there,
As if he is in another place.

Oh yes, it hurts,
To be unwanted by your peers.
Dejected and distraught,
You’re on your own, hoping,
The mist will clear.

Oh, but it will.
Believe me when I say,
It will be gone soon.
Don’t you worry,
Because you’ll be okay.

Let me just finish here,
By telling you what this poem is about:
It’s to show you that, no matter what,
You can’t blend in when you were born to stand out!
