Stop and Smell the Flowers - Poem

I was recently looking through some old poems, essays and monologues of mine, when I found one piece where I spoke about nature. I noticed an old expression I once heard from a popular spoken word artist known as Prince Ea which said the following.

"Sometimes, in life, you just have to stop and smell the flowers,
And give other people the flowers while they can still smell them".

The line give me a light-bulb moment of inspiration and I logged to my laptop to begin writing my thoughts.

Here is what I came up with.

I hope you enjoy!

Stop and Smell the Flowers - Poem

You are driving in your car,
Windows down, radio loud.
You see flowers growing,
On a nearby bush,
Close to your car.

Yet you are driving so fast,
You eat up the road in front with your miles,
You're not bothered about those flowers,
And if you were,
Would you stop close enough?

You should stop, calm down
Relax as you drive.
Leave the windows down and the music loud
But drive slower,
Calmer,
Take a breath.

Feel the breeze as it blows in
Crisp, fresh and welcoming
And yes, most importantly,
Stop, close enough
And smell the flowers
Growing in a nearby bush.
