The Light of Life - Poem

Recently, the famed singer, Yaakov Shwekey, released a song called "The Wonder of Life" which tells the story of a young person who faces numerous challenges confronting their health and impacts their quality of life. The lyrics speak of how the person struggles to think of and feel the coming goodness in their life, but at the same time is inspired to find a little spark inside themselves and try to focus on making it through one day at a time.

Letting the wonders of life lead the way.

This song inspired me to write a poem in which the character lives in emotional darkness while the world around him is a buzz with joy, splendor and color. At the poem progresses, our character starts to heal and eventually sees a glorious ending to his story when he can join the world of color once again.

The Light of Life - Poem

Outside, the birds are chirping
Outside there is light from the rays
Outside, a tap from the calm breeze
Outside, it’s a new day

Outside, the world is so bright
But, inside my heart, for me it’s still night

When can I rise
to feel the sunshine
Oh
When will I reach
the top of my climb
Oh

For so long, I’ve been in pain
There has not been anything to gain
From sorrow
My heart aches with every beat
Can I please be strong to meet
Tomorrow

Oh, I need to see the light
