Play Your Music - Poem

Throughout Jewish history, music has always played an integral part in our lives. From the Shirah sung at the Yam Suf, to the sweet and brilliant compositions of King David. From the great harmonies and  heart-stirring pieces performed in the Holy Temple, to the messages of unrelenting faith and belief in the Al-mighty that was contained and brought out in the melodies of the Chasidic Rabbis of Europe, music has never ceased playing its tune.

Even now, at this point in time, as we get ready to great Moshiach music is still a key component to maintaining our belief in G-d and keeping the smiles on our faces, even during the hardest of moments.

Recently, I had the idea to write a poem based on a concept about a young, little boy, who, although he plays the piano beautifully he is to afraid to play in front of audience. His father, who is also an accomplished musician, really wants to see his son overcome his shyness and always lovingly encourages him to just try his best. But every time the little boy tries, things don't go as planned... Will the boy ever overcome his fear?

I invite you to follow this little story until its end and I hope you will appreciate it as much as I do!

Play Your Music - Poem
In a world full of music,
Where every kind of song is played,
There is one piece that I still want to hear,
It's for those notes that I wait.

I want to hear the symphony,
The emotions, I want to feel,
So special, majestic and wonderful,
So raw, powerful and real.

But my beloved young son,
Is to afraid to play,
Even though I try to encourage him,
Every single day.

Yet, when he is on stage, all alone,
He is so nervous, he begins to cry,
He is to scared to perform,
In front of millions of judging eyes.

But tonight, before he walks on stage,
I beg him and I say,
"Please son, can't you try,
Play for me today?

"Just close your eyes and pretend,
It is just me and you,
Sitting there, I am holding your hand,
Like I always do.
Remember those times at home,
On our own,
Put your fingers on the keys,
Son, won't you please
Play your music
For... Me
