Masking Texts - Poem

About a week ago, I found a certain song online which describes the anxiety and paranoia of a young girl who sits at home waiting for her friends to reply to her messages. Yet as the minutes turn in to hours and the hours turn to a day or two, the young girl receives no response. Her paranoia kicks in and she begins wondering if she even matters to her friends, if they even care about her, or is she invisible, are her friends better off without her?

The rawness of the lyrics inspired me to create the poem written below. Titled "Masking Texts", It is my own viewpoint and interpretation of the lyrics which I hope you will find as enjoyable to read as you do reading a really cool text or email message. (Excuse the pun, please, I am sorry)

Masking Texts - Poem
Sitting and looking at my screen
All the messages I see
So many smiles and laughs
And so many waves
Yet inside I feel so low
Do any of my friends care to know?
Can they take of their mask
So I can truthfully see their face?

Do they really care?
Or do they whisper
Behind my back
When I am not there?

Why do I have a feeling
That their not really smiling
But rather spreading lies
Waiting to hear my cries
But I cry in emptiness
I feel so worthless
Just me and my tears
All alone

All Alone…

I’m waiting for you to respond
But I’ve waited for too long
You're not even busy
You probably don’t wanna talk to me

Do they really care
Or do they whisper
Behind my back
When I am not there

Why do I  have a feeling
That their not really smiling
But rather spreading lies
Waiting to hear my cries
But I cry in emptiness
I feel worthless
Just me and my tears
All alone

All Alone

Answer me, truthfully
Show that you care
Don’t leave me on my own over here

But I cry in emptiness
I feel worthless
Just me and my tears
All alone…

Please pick up your phone…
