Perfectly Myself - Poem

I was recently inspired to write a poem about a young man who is about to embark on a very personal and emotional journey. He knows that along the way he will encounter storms, struggles and dilemmas, yet he is prepared to face them and not give up on his goals. He is not going to let a couple stormy moments burn out his inner fire and passions.

The main tagline of this poem, "I am perfectly myself, yes that is good enough for me" which appears right at the end, symbolizes to me that throughout your life, you will always improve and be a more "perfect" you. But if you change and become better, that means you were not perfect before. How does that work?

The answer is that at one moment in time, there is a perfect "you" for that moment. Three months down the line, for example, there will hopefully be a new "you" who has slowly began to improve and become a happier version of themselves.

Simply put as the popular musical artist Ari Goldwag once said, "Life's a work in progress, that is reality"

Perfectly Myself - Poem

I know there are so many things I want to do
So many things to achieve
Will I do it all… who knows?
I guess it is all up to me
To take a stand
Look right ahead
Move forward
Try my best

I know sometimes life will get tough
The clouds become too dark
But no matter what, I’ll keep walking
My head held high my passion in my heart
Cause the rain won’t wash my desire away
It’s here, here to stay

Yet, I know I’m not perfect
But I hope you can see that I try
And I don’t really seem to improve
As time goes right on by
But I know you’re standing there beside me
I will try my best
To achieve my goals
You’ll See

The clouds spread out,
The morning sky, so bright blue
And suddenly the sun is trapped
The storm won’t let it through
If only the light will shine
Guiding me
So I can see
Clearly

Yet, I know I’m not perfect
But I hope you can see that I try
And I don’t really seem to improve
As time goes right on by
But I know you’re standing there beside me
I will try my best
To achieve my goals
You’ll See 

Come help me,
Save me
The waves are drowning me
Pulling me
Down
To the point of no breathing
And I need
You
To show me the way through,

The road is so dark
No light, no spark
Come brighten up
The path
So I can continue to walk
I pray to you
I need you
To help me through

I know I’m not perfect
But I hope you can see that I try
And I see a small improvement
As time goes right on by
I’m still trying to be the best person I can be
I am perfectly myself
Yes, that’s enough for me
