Remembering My Teacher - Poem

February 10th 2021.
I don't think I'll ever forget that day.
In fact, I am sure that I don't ever want to forget that day. Ever

On this day, a year ago, my entire school community went into a deep sense of love, longing, and shared memories when one of my teachers tragically and suddenly passed away. It was so sudden, so shocking, that even writing this a year later, I still don't know exactly what to say. How do I sum up the loss of one of my most beloved teachers? How can I describe the loss of a man who's morals and values of respect, kindness, love and care, penetrated his every lesson?

I don't know...

This teacher had been on temporary leave since the beginning of the year and had only returned to school, a mere 10 days before he was taken from our midst. We had spoken a week before his passing and I was looking forward to speak to him again...

But it never came to be.

I remember how the news was broken to me. We had been called to a school assembly when suddenly myself and two other friends were called out by our Menahel. We went into a quiet room where he softly and kindly broke the news to us. We were shocked. Simple as that. All we could do was reflect on the news and share the many memories we had and the so special personal connection each of us shared...

I am going to share with you what I wrote in honour of his memorial assembly about a month later.

He was more then just an amazing teacher. He was an amazing, wonderful, kind and respectful friend, whose gentle demeanour, wisdom and love for his colleagues and students will be missed

In honour of my teacher, who's values and morals have lived with me since that tragic and devastating day, I wish to share a very personal and dear poem which I wrote mere minutes after I heard the news.

I hope you will be inspired by his everlasting legacy

Remembering My Teacher - Poem

Dear Teacher, where have you gone?
So sudden, a shocking news
A man of tremendous respect
To everyone, regardless of their views

I loved you so much
A connection beyond the sight of the eye
And now your gone, to rest in peace
All I want to do is cry

My eyes brim with the smallest of tears
The shock, to strong
How I wish you could have been with me
For just one more day long

A man who I loved
Any topic can be spoken
As long as it was done with respect
We could talk, that was our token

May you be blessed in heaven, Dear Teacher
May g-d protect and guard your soul
Thanks for the memories, good times, jokes and vibes
For helping me with my goal

I’ll miss you, it’s no secret
Your respect and love I admired
You left us… a great man
You left me… Inspired
