Perfectly True - Poem

About two weeks ago, I was inspired to create a poem about the beauty of truth. I wrote it with the concept of comparing truth to things that are beautiful, serene and pleasant and than in contrast, lies being compared to disaster, destruction, and painful thoughts

Liam Neeson, a popular Irish actor once said the following line in one of his films, A Monster Calls,

"You believe comforting lies when knowing full well the painful truth that make those lies necessary"

I personally believe that on a deeper and more profound level, he was not just talking about always speaking the truth instead of lying when you do something wrong, but rather, he was talking about not lying to oneself. Telling the truth. Even when it is hard to face the facts. Even when it is painful.

When a person believes comforting lies and knows full well the painful truth that make those lies necessary, he is only lying to himself and instead of the lies comforting him, they cause him inner pain, inner conflict, inner unease. Yet, when a person believes and speaks the truth even if it is hard for him, he is than fully able to face his challenges with a clear consistence and mind. No pain, conflict or unease..

Just the simple, calm truth.

I hope you enjoy the poem
Perfectly True - Poem
To tell the truth means,
To be happy, joyful and lively.
To tell the truth means,
Closing the wounds of a lie.

Truth heals scars,
While lies only scar us.
Truth is the fire of peace,
While lies are what brings ash to the town.

Truth builds a person,
While lies offer no foundation.
Truth is a ripe fruit,
While lies are only the mold and dirt.

Truth is the embrace,
While lies are the rebuke and slap.
Truth is a pleasant flower,
While lies are the decayed ones.

Lies are the wounds of the soul
The truth is what gives the soul, love comfort and healing.
