Thank You Rebbe - Poem

As some of my readers know, I finished all of my GCSE exams in the later weeks of June. This week is my last week in school before the end of the academic year and my official graduation. It is a significant time in my life, both personally, mentally and educationally and I wish to share some of this significance with you.

At my Kodesh Seudas Preida which was held in my Menahel's house, I had the honor of privately presenting to him a personalized gift from my family, as well as read a poem I composed especially for him, which I am posting here.

Before reading it, however, I'd like for you to know of a special inside joke, a certain number of his students, me included, shared between us as it is a part of one of the stanzas in the poem

Throughout this year, it being our last year before graduation, those boys who were going to graduate, were part of a little "Mini-Yeshiva Program" which was held outside of the school grounds. One of the boys in our group, did not like it when our Menahel, who taught us in this program, gave out the tests. Between them, they came up with a comical expression to use in replacement of the word "test", instead referring to them as, "pieces of paper with questions on it."

This joke traveled throughout the group and took on a life of its own, due to the comical origins, and served as a little point of teasing and laughter right before each test.

(There actually was not that many tests, in the end of all of that)

Anyways, now you know the inside joke, so, I hope you can enjoy the poem, just a little bit more.

Thank You, Rebbe - Poem
Dear Rebbe
Where do I begin? Where can I start?
How can I ever thank you?
For, in my life, you’ve played such a big part.

From my teacher to my Menahel
And then in the little Yeshiva
You’ve inspired, motivated encouraged
And you helped make me wiser

Your creativity and easy-going nature
Combined with your support and care
Allowed me to learn so easily from you
In school, yeshiva, on trips,
Simply anywhere

You made me laugh, you made me chuckle
You made me learn with a smile
You taught me how to be who I am
Because being myself makes everything worthwhile

All the Torah I was taught
All the tests I was forced to sit
Oh, I am sorry, it was not a test
It was a piece of paper with questions on it

You are my Rebbi,
I will say it once, twice, a thousand times, again
You are my Rebbi
Leolom Voed!

I really appreciate all that you’ve done for me
And all that I can say to you
Is two words, with eight letters
These two words are

THANK YOU
