Continued Silence - Poem

One of my favorite strategies I use for writing and creating an idea for a new poem is to look at various song titles and then try create a concept around one that appeals or sticks out to me, almost as a way of exploring deeper into the title, creating possibilities within the obscurity of one, two, or more, words. Finding an understanding of the tittle and embracing it.

This poem "Continued Silence" is case in point. I was in need of an idea and after checking out some song tittles, this one stood out to me as the most usable and ambiguous one. I pulled up some calm writing music and let the cogs and ink work together until the finished product was before me. I originally wanted to make the concept quite aggressive and dark, however, as I wrote more and more, I realized that it was more suited as one that is calming and soulful.

I hope you enjoy it,

Continued Silence - Poem
Staring out into a stream of noise,
Feeling the vibrations underneath my feet,
Inside my head, thing are quiet,
My world is peaceful and serene.

Moments of hurry and rush pass around me,
But the calm inside is so true,
Unfazed by the flurry, unalarmed by the screams,
Inside my head, it’s just me and you,

Silence is a gift,
It is wrapped in layers of meaning and wisdom,
Silence is golden,
Priceless in the bustling market of life.
It is speaks in mute,
Heard by the heart, savoured by the soul,
It accepts with a gentle nod,
A haven of peace, away from the piercing strife.

Silence is unspoken,
No words,
Just silence, raw and untouched,
Continued Silence.
