Place G-d Before Me - Poem

Released right before Purim, Baruch Levines new album "Lev Chodosh" is already a personal favorite of mine. Full of incredibly heartwarming and upbeat songs, it is almost impossible for me to pick the one I like best, however in terms o songs that have inspired poems, there is one.

The second track on the album "Shivisi" is a slow, warm and heart-stirring piece, which quite obviously include the famous words of King David,
"Shivisi Hashem LeNegdi Samid - Place G-d Before Me, Always". The beauty and simplicity of the words stood out to me more than ever when I heard this song for the first time to the point that as I was learning the tune and singing along, the idea for a poem began formulating in my head.

Here is what I came up with,

I hope you enjoy it

Place G-d Before Me - Poem
Lost in the dark, all alone,
Not sure where to go, which path leads me home,
I need a spark of light to lead me on my way,
Out of the forest, in to the light of a new day.

Looking all around, suddenly I see,
A small, little light, almost calling out to me,
A heaven-sent guide all from the one above,
Who protects His nation with so much love.

Place G-d before me,
So I can feel again,
The warmth of His love,
That I never want to end,
Place G-d before me,
So I will always know,
No matter what happens,
I am never alone.

Place G-d before me,
So His voice I can hear,
Loving, encouraging,
So soft, yet so clear,
Place G-d before me,
Because I am His son,
My love for Him is so deep,
It's deeper than blood can run
