A Singer, A Friend, A Legend: In Tribute To Dedi Graucher A''H - Poem
On Monday evening, (September 11th 2023, the 25th of Elul 5783), the news broke from Israel that the beloved singer Oded David "Dedi" Graucher A''H had passed away at 62 after a lengthy illness.
As soon as I found out the news, I shared this message with a group of close friends:
"This is so incredibly shocking and unexpected. A great man with a massive heart, a kind soul and a wonderful voice who was famous for his energy on stage and the ability to light up a room with his presence.
Baruch Dayan Ha'emes
Oded David ben Yeshayahu Yechiel Meir a''h"
That is what I shared with my friends and as I was writing out that very message, I knew I would create a poem as my way of remembering and thanking the man whose incredible voice and personality was a massive part of my childhood. I also created a graphic poster which can be found here.
May Hashem bring comfort to his family, friends and colleagues and may the final redemption come speedily so we can all hear Dedis powerful, uniting and loving voice once again.

As he walked onto the stage,
The audience felt free,
Singing, cheering, dancing,
Expressing themselves openly.
The man standing by the microphone,
Smiled and yelled proudly,
"Good evening,
New York City!"
His presence was so electric,
You felt it in the air,
A spirit so infectious,
It touched everyone there,
His energy and smile,
Was enough to have you soaring high,
His voice so powerful,
It would let you fly.
His name was Dedi,
Everyone knew him and loved him,
How could you not,
When there was something so special about him?
A magnet of joy, a magnet of life,
Coupled with the perfect song for the moment,
Everyone at his concert,
Just knew, oh, they would enjoy it!!
His music burst into life,
The crowd was united,
A flame of love and joy,
Was ignited.
The singer raised his voice,
The audience roaring along,
As he began to sing,
His famous song.
The lyrics rang out, so wonderfully,
As the singer gave everything he had,
Calling out into the crowd,
"Kulanu Nashir Byachad".
It was so great to see him perform,
Oh, yes, the audience knew it to,
That is why it breaks our hearts now,
To say goodbye to you.
