Phones & Thanks - Monthly Gedolim Story

Shevat. The month of the Rosh Hashana of the trees. That event occurs on the fifteenth day of the month, a day known as Tu B'shvat (Fifteenth of Shvat). Its a time of eating the fruits of the trees in celebration of the fact the tree is replenishing its leaves and fruits after a long winter.

A reborn tree, if you will.

Well, do you know what else occurs on Tu B'shvat? Tu B'shvat is the birthday of the great American Maggid, Rabbi Paysach Krohn שליט"א. Rabbi Krohn is a true legend, and a shining light for Jews the world over. His books are precious gems of inspiration, his speeches and words of wisdom are priceless sapphires.

It is no wonder that just as on Tu B'shvat the trees begin to blossom and grow towards greatness, so to Rabbi Krohns' stories, books and speeches, which are all produced and spoken with the goal of enhancing the lives of anyone on earth, just as fruit do, have blossomed into a vast orchard of fresh, divine fruits for the soul to eat.

In honor of this great mans birthday I wanted this month's Gadol story to be about him. Here is the story.

Hope you like it.

Phones & Thanks - Monthly Gedolim Story
A couple of years ago, Rabbi Krohn was at LaGuardia Airport in New York about to travel to Toronto for a speaking engagement. He went passed security, as you do, to put his things through and make sure everything he was carrying was safe and secure.

After collecting his items upon their arrival on the other side of the security conveyor belt, he went to sit and wait to board his plane at his designated gate. As he was sitting there, checking over his notes and making sure everything else was in order, he got quite a surprise as two security officials came to the gate and walked over to him.

Well, needless to say, everyone in the terminal was staring at this Rabbi whom the guards had gone over to. "Can I help you, officers?" asked Rabbi Krohn, "Well, sir, tell us, is this your cellphone?" one of the guards asked him. Rabbi Krohn smiled, "No, I don't think so. I should have my cellphone on me." But, just to be safe, Rabbi Krohn checked around for his phone.

He gasped. He normally carried on his belt, but it was not there. After checking any other visible pocket where it could have been and coming up with nothing, he looked at the cellphone in the guards hand saw it was indeed his cellphone. He was shocked. "Officer, that is my cellphone. I can't believe it!"

The officer smiled "Well, buddy, when you went through security you had so many trays with so many items and you left your cellphone in one of 'em"

He picked up the cellphone and thanked the guards. As they wee leaving, though, Rabbi Krohn asked one of them, "Excuse me sir. There are two thousand people sitting in this terminal. How did you find me in the crowd?"

The offices both looked at him, "Do you remember what you said to us as you walked through the gate?" one of them asked "No, not really" Rabbi Krohn replied, "Well, you looked at both of us and said 'Thank you gentlemen for being here. I feel so thankful and safe that your here'". He added "Thousands of people walk by security every day without saying thank you. You said thank you, so my colleague and I were gonna find you even if you were the last guy in the terminal".

Well, I'll tell you one thing. I think we must all be thankful for the fruits and the trees but also we must be thankful that Hashem gave us a man like Rabbi Krohn whose amazing stories and kindness have been such a inspiration to so many.

Oh, and I must add, THANK YOU, my dear friends for reading this story!!
