Eternal Is Song - Poem

About a decade ago, Chassidic singer Yisroel Werdyger released his album "Ashira Va'azamra". I was a young boy, back when it hit the stores and I remember really enjoying many of the songs on that disc, including the title track.

Recently, I found that song again and as I heard it for the first time in all those years,  felt, - besides for the warm flush of memories - a deeper and richer appreciation for the piece. I found myself enchanted by the melody, delivered in a soft, soothing and calming tone which was in turn able to allow the musical arrangements, itself equally soft, alongside being tranquil and almost angelic, to shine, as though it itself was a large amount of diamonds, sparkling deep within my soul.

Connecting me to eternity, taking my very being to an elevated place, as music so often does to so many of us.

This week, I was inspired by the words of the song, which discuss singing a song to G-d to compose a poem about how, as Jews, even during hard times, we never stop singing, never stop praising, never stop finding a reason to smile. I wanted to do my utmost to give over this feeling and so I hope to have do so in a elegant and refined way.

I hope you will enjoy it,

Eternal Is Song - Poem

So many years we spent,

Singing this one song,

United we would raise our voice,

Inviting the outsider to join along.

Those who hated us,

Would try to silence our melody,

But they were always unsuccessful,

For they never knew the power of unity.

Unity is love,

It opens up the jar of blessings and grace.

Unity is our eternal truth,

It connects to our past, our home, our place.

Connected to eternity,

We sing as one,

A nation of G-d,

A fathers joy is his son.

As we raised our voice,

We joined not just in harmony, but yes with our hands too,

No bridge left untraveled,

As we combine the me and you.

Our voices fill the room,

Our souls start to dance,

Eternity is ours,

We are one with the stars.

At the end of time,

We will still be here singing,

As the shofar blasts fill the air,

The sounds of redemption will start ringing

It will be us, doing the dancing,

As the truest of songs will begin,

Deep from our very being,

We will sing only to Him
