Secrets of the Scroll - Poem
A couple of months ago by now, I put out a poem "Portal of Time" which was written as a result of needing an idea to write about and letting my brain wonder around for a little until the idea come together. This week, despite having many new and some old, poems to choose from, I wanted to experience the same creative pulse, if you will, I felt when I finished writing the aforementioned piece.
I put on some music and let my brain piece something together. After some minutes the phrase "Secrets of the Scroll" seemed to stick and the basic premise of it also felt ready to be composed into a poem. After some more minutes, the piece was ready.
Well, before I sign off and present the poem, I want to tell you about the concept or premise of it. It tells the story of a small village in which there lives a great Tzaddik, a righteous man, who spends his days ad nights learning Torah and delving deeper and deeper into the riches and wonder of the source of life, feeling alive as each word becomes but a small part of him, one at a time.
I hope you will find the poem enjoyable.
Have a fantastic week ahead,
Yitzy Schweitzer
A quiet night in the village,
Townsfolk sleep away the night,
But in a small house, in the center of town,
Burns a single candle, a flicker of light.
Over the sefer, the Tzaddik sits and learns,
One word, one page at a time,
A warmth in his voice, a fire of happiness on his face,
His soul dances, as he keeps the flame of Torah alive.
All he wants is a closeness with our Creator,
He wants to keep learning, one more time and once again,
To delve into the words hear and understand the secrets of the scroll,
A loving servant to the ever-loving king, a Yid doing his Avoidas Hashem.
If one were to stand out by his front door,
You’d see the light dance and hear his voice sing,
You’d be transfixed, transported into a world of everlasting joy,
Because within the Torah lies the secret and the key to everything
