The Soldier: One Year On From October 7th - Subscriber Poetry Inspiration 2024-25 Poem 1

One year ago today, everything changed.

One year ago today, it began.

On this day, one year ago, our lives would never be the same.

On year ago today, the war began.

A year later, the war still rages on.

A year later, the unity of the Jewish People is on a level unlike anything seen before.

A year later, despite the pain and tragedy, we keep fighting, knowing the end of all war will come soon.

A year later, we still stand with pride, in support of our brothers and sisters.

In a conversation right before Rosh Hashana with a very dear subscriber, I was asked to create a poem highlighting the bravery and resilience of our Jewish brothers and sisters fighting in this war. I was asked to create a poem, about these holy people who have put their lives on the line, to fight for Hashem's people, their people, their nation.

Well, as we commemorate one year of the devastating attacks of October 7th 2023, I feel humbled to share with you that poem and hopeful for Mashiach to arrive, so all wars can be over, we can return to our true home of Yerushalayim and Hashem's glory can be spread and recognized, the world over.

May we soon see the redemption, speedily, in our times. but may that time be now.

Yours, with prayers in my heart,

Yitzy Schweitzer

The Soldier: One Year On From October 7th - Subscriber Poetry Inspiration 2024-25 Poem 1

The enemy has risen,
They are up and getting stronger,
We wait, with fear,
Can we even hang on a little longer?
Will everything fall away,
Into the dust, rubble and fires?
Was everything for nothing?
Is this where our dreams die?

But then, a quiet hero,
Prayer on his lips, he steps forward,
He looks to heaven, whispers to G-d,
Walks out, a mission is coming, he is stepping forward.

We watch in awe,
We understand what he is doing,
The sacrifice he is making,
As the enemies advance, the storm continues brewing.
But, unfazed is he,
For he has protection,
Its his prayer, its his belief,
In his Maker, that He will provide salvation,

We stand now, today,
Wherever we may be,
We salute you, dear soldiers of our homeland,
For your courage, resilience and bravery,
We stand with you, in prayer,
Our simple prayers, combine in spirituality with yours,
Our souls join hands, our hearts creating the music,
Of the redemption we know is coming, its here right at our doors.
