Afterglow - Poem

While I often use music or song titles to construct a poem, I have been tempted in recent weeks to write a poem using the following new method. That method being, to open up my blog's workspace, write a full-fledged poem and only after getting that done, write the introduction.

So, yes, in hindsight, maybe its nothing new in comparison to the way I have always written my pieces, as the poem mostly comes before the description is written anyway, but there is, to me at least, a difference in that this makes it easier to post the poem after writing as it's being written within the blog's workspace elements and not on a Google docs workspace, for example.

Either way, crazy explanation done, this poem was based around the word "Afterglow", I wanted to capture that word alone in poem form and began to write it straight away, as a poem about mining for treasure and gold, but as I got into the groove, I began to push the narrative more towards the "golden light of Jewish survival" as the driving force behind the poem.

After some time, the final piece was complete. A powerful, yet simple message, encapsulated in rhyme and joyous rhythm, which I am so thankful and proud to share with you.

I hope you enjoy it, my friends,

All the very best,

Afterglow - Poem

Beneath the rubble and the dirt,
Beneath the stones, sticks and hurt,
Lies the gold.
Sparks of light, sparks of joy,
Filling the room, filling the void,
So the story has been told.

Would you come and search for the treasure with me?
Are you willing to uncover the mystery?
Do you want to know the answer to the age old question?
How we stay strong throughout the noise and destruction?

Because of the spark inside, deep inside our soul,
Sitting dormant until the call,
Not adrenaline, nor is it a magical power,
It's a light that shines, it is ours.
Leaving everyone stunned as we march forwards,
Rising from the rubble, alive after falling,
The spark ignites, a volcanic eruption,
Leaving behind the afterglow, of eternal constructions

So despite the worries and the pain,
Despite the storms and the rain,
The gold remains pure,
Even as the hate gets stronger,
We keep surviving, we belong here
As He promised before.

The world knows we have a light that they can't extinguish,
To break us and to hurt us, is there only wish,
But every time we enter darkness, we emerge alive,
As they are stand there shocked, wondering why.

Because of the spark inside, deep inside our soul,
Sitting dormant until the call,
Not adrenaline, nor is it a magical power,
It's a light that shines, it is ours.
Leaving everyone stunned as we march forwards,
Rising from the rubble, alive after falling,
The spark ignites, a volcanic eruption,
Leaving behind the afterglow, of eternal constructions

Won't you tap in to your soul? To the afterglow?
Throughout the years, always it has remained.
The world, can you believe it? They still can't answer, the question of our eternal power,
The power of Yid, A Yid's spirit and spark never breaks!
