I Hope Today Is Kinder To You... - Poem

As some of you may know, sometimes wen I write a poem, the inspiration comes from hearing a phrase or line and immediately getting an idea based on it, which leads to developing the idea and writing it out. It happens with many of my pieces, case in point being, the other poem featured in this weeks' email, "Ashen Sky". The idea for that piece came about through hearing the aforementioned phrase and immediately wanting to develop and work with it, to make a poem based on it.

The same is true for this poem. It comes from a video in which a young man was talking about the fact that he had been having a rough day. An older man had seen he was feeling a little down on his luck and dropped a simple, yet profound line that stuck with him. That line was the title of this poem, "I hope today is kinder to you." Hearing that line, I knew I had to do something with it and so I turned off the video and started writing,

I Hope Today Is Kinder To You... - Poem

The sun rises, the sky becomes blue,
The bright colors dill your room,
Yet you don't get out of bed, something is on your mind,
You lie awake, wishing the seconds away, in sadness and gloom.

Something went wrong yesterday,
It seemed not every note was played,
Maybe not every goal was reached,
Or the colour just didn't dance on the page.

But, I hope today is better for you,
I hope the words come together today,
I hope to hear your song being played,
As I go past your window, on my way.

I hope the sun is brighter today,
I hope, if it rains, let it only add melody for you.
I hope you smile, a soft, gentle smile,
I hope today is kinder to you.

Not every day will be good,
That's tough to accept,
But life is a heartbeat, a melody,
Each day is different from the rest.

It's discouraging to be stuck on one bland note,
Add some beats, charm, and flavor to the mix,
Keep your head up, move forward step by step.
Don't be fooled by the deceitful, nasty little tricks.

But, I hope today is better for you,
I hope the words come together today,
I hope to hear your song being played,
As I go past your window, on my way.
