He Needs You! - Poem

Sometime last week, or perhaps even two weeks ago, I was re-watching the video "Lechaim Un Nachas" a full-length video of the wildly successful concert produced by Moishy Kraus of MK Studios, featuring the Yiddish Nachas Boys Chour, Shmueli Ungar, Yaakov Shwekey, Hershy Weinberger & Yossi Green. At midway point of Shmueli Ungar's first appearance of the night, he gave an introduction to his popular song "Madreigos" or "Levels" in English, where he said the following touching message:

"The upcoming song which I am now going to sing, is a very, very special song, for me. All songs are special right? But this song, has special meaning, because I, just as everyone here, find myself sometimes in a place where I think, "Me? Me? The Bashefer needs me? He has so many Tzadikim! So many Rabonim, Geonim, Roshei Yeshivos! Me, He needs?"

Shmueli continued and he said "But no, no, no, says the Chafetz Chaim. The Bashefer already has all the Tzadikim! There are so many levels of serving Hashem. But even if you question yourself and wonder if you're good enough he tells you, 'All can sit before Him, within the shade of the Divine Presence. Everyone has a seat at the table"

It was with this thought in mind that I wrote this poem, trying to convey those thoughts of questioning oneself and wondering if one is needed by G-d, even after He has had all of the Holiest of Souls, after that, He still NEEDS me?

Yes, He does need you. He needs you more than you even know.

After some time the poem was complete and now it is my honour to share it with you,

He Needs You! - Poem

There have been so many before me,
So many great sages, walking this path,
There have been many far greater then I alone,
Is my time on this earth, meaningful or will it come to pass?

So many saintly Tzadikim, have lit the path up before I walked it,
So many wise, loving Rabonim have taught me more than I could ever teach,
So many Geonim, have learnt more than I could ever understand,
So many Roshei Yeshiva, have guided many lost souls, many of them beyond their reach.

So tell me, please, if you can,
What does He need me for? What good deeds can I do what great impact can I have?
He has got His deeds done already by those luminaries who have long  departed and those who still remain,
Hasn’t he got with all this greatness, hasn’t all of that made an impact?

But, no, it’s not all done,
Still something remains for me,
A wise man, maybe one of the great sages told me so,
I’ll share it with you, listen, if you wish, carefully.

You may think that He has all His great sages and wise leaders,
Yes, He has had many of them, that’s true,
He had all of them, at some point in our great history,
But in all of history, has He ever had you?

Everyone else, all those great sages of the past and present,
Have done and are doing all they could do, their very best they could do,
But still, that’s not enough,
Because Hashem, He is waiting for you.

He wants you to realize how much He loves you,
How much he waits for you to do what you can do,
He wants you to give it your best, just give it a honest try,
Because yes, He has all these other great leaders and sages, true,
But never in all of time, has He had someone as special as… you.
