Guardian of Israel, Guardian of the Lone Sheep Among Seventy Wolves - Poem

I think most people are familiar with the song "Kisva Achas (One Sheep" by Mordechai Ben David which is based on a teaching of the Yalkut Shimoni, on Tehilim Perek 35:
,
"David said, "One sheep surrounded by seventy wolves, what can she do?
So too is Israel surrounded by seventy strong nations, what can they do?"

This is of course a comparison, comparing a simple, defenseless, little sheep surrounded by seventy vicious, merciless, hungry wolves to the Nation of Israel, on its own, surrounded by seventy strong nations who wish to annihilate and destroy us. Be rid of us. Wipe us off the map and erase our name from history.

But the don't. They can't. Why? Because as the Yalkut Shimoni continues and writes:
"If The Holy One, Blessed Be He would not stand by their side constantly, what can they do?"

The reason why the nations, these wolves, cannot attack or perhaps, destroy Israel, the little lone sheep is because of Hashem. He is watching over us as a kind-hearted, caring, loving shepherd, sheltering us from harm and attack, providing for us constantly, be it food, clothes or anything and everything. We are safe because of Him. We are here, because of Him.

Oh, and do I got some news for you: We are here because of Him and we ain't going anywhere, because of Him. He will always be with us.

I tried to capture this little teaching and its message in a simple poem which I share with you now. As I sign off, however, I realize that this poem is a nice one to connect to Pesach for obvious reasons. Pharaoh and the Egyptians were the wolves and we were that little, single sheep... yes, you know what I am getting at! :)

I hope you enjoy the poem and I wish you all a wonderful week and a wonderful first days of Pesach.

Guardian of Israel,
Guardian of the Lone Sheep Among Seventy Wolves - Poem

Like one sheep among seventy wolves,
So does the nation of Israel stand,
Hoping to live a life filled with peace and tranquility,
Yet the wolves are hungry, they hold weapons in their hands.

They surround the lone sheep,
Showing teeth, strong powerful and mighty,
The sheep stands, defenseless and scared,
As the wolves prepare for their meal, their treat.

Suddenly as the wolves advance,
As they get closer to the sheep, with their eyes of venom and teeth of poison,
The Shepeared emerges from a hiding place,
Startling the wolves with ear-splitting roars and terrifying noises.

The wolves scatter in shock,
Their meal left on a plate, uneaten
As the little sheep, Israel, stands victorious,
Once again, they were attacked but not beaten.

For as the verse says clearly,,
Behold, the Guardian and Keeper of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps,
We are His flock, He is our shepherd,
We are His one and only, a nation of perfectly imperfect humanity.

Sometimes, we will be attacked by the vicious wolves,
Sometimes it will feel hopeless and dark,
But our Shepherd even when He hides,
He remains within our midst and minds, even by the last breathes of a fires spark

Than, in hardships, our voices ring out to Him,
In heaven He turns to His angels, and asks them
“I hear crying of goats, I hear crying of sheep,  what is this crying?”
They remind Him, “Aibishter, these are your children, These are the צאן קדושים,
These are Your children, Hashem!”

His mercy is awakened,
The evil decrees before Him are ripped to shreds,
He turns in promise to His angels and He speaks those words,
"הנה לא ינום ולא יישן שומר ישראל”
