Shallow Waters - Poem

A couple of weeks back, I wrote a poem called "Shallow Waters" which I am sharing with you now after leaving this poem in my archives for some time.

In the poem, I talk about being lied to and misled by the false words and seemingly friendly smiles of our desires. Not the desires of wanting or needing an object or specific thing, but rather, the desire or drive to occasionally stumble and perform an sinful act. We know that life is not a perfect story and sometimes we fail, stumble and are prone to performing even the most embarrassing acts and errors even though most of the time we don't mean it.

We don't mean it. But it is the lying shine of fake gold and "greener grass" along with our evil inclination that create this sort of bubble in which we are trapped, as we fight to overcome our daily battles of doing good or bad.

We are misled by the lies of the gold that does not shine. We are misled by calm, still waters that are actually stormy and strong. We travel towards it and in an instant we realize our error as we stand there with rotting gold worth nothing or we drown in monstrous and deceptive seas.

This poem is all about those lies, all about that shame and above all, a silent prayer to do better.

I hope you enjoy it.

Wishing you a glorious week ahead.

Shallow Waters - Poem

A path illuminated, by a vibrant light,
Transfixed, by its glow,
If only to be next to it,
If only to be next to it,
Getting closer to the goal,
But feeling my soul drift away.
Could it really be so?
Could it really be so?

Drowning in shallow waters alone,
Washed away by foreign waves, on my own,
Trapped in the current of my desires,
Deceived by their soft friendly smiles,
Gasping for air, wishing to escape,
The glowing gold is not the same,
Much rather stay with the truth,
But the lies have got me, caught in the noose.

So many times, stumbling for emptiness,
Taunted by the freedom,
Wanting to reach out to it,
Wanting to reach out to it,
Sometimes, I am about to fall,
My heart breaking, as I ignore its call.
Could I really be so foolish?
Could I really be so foolish?

Drowning in shallow waters alone,
Washed away by foreign waves, on my own,
Trapped in the current of my desires,
Deceived by their soft friendly smiles,
Gasping for air, wishing to escape,
The glowing gold is not the same,
Much rather stay with the truth,
But the lies have got me, caught in the noose.

Oh, G-d, why do the righteous and simple fall,
Why so many tests to distort our souls,
What if we are not strong enough to withstand,
The cold grasp of evil, as it reaches out its hand?
What happens after the seventh time?
If it feels like the mountains to steep to climb?
What is the meaning of repeating our errors,
When it is wrong to give to give in to these lying terrors?

Drowning in shallow waters alone,
Washed away by foreign waves, on my own,
Trapped in the current of my desires,
Deceived by their soft friendly smiles,
Gasping for air, wishing to escape,
The glowing gold is not the same,
Much rather stay with the truth,
But the lies have got me, caught in the noose.
