What Three Words? - Subscriber Poetry Inspiration 2025-26 Poem 7

In a recent conversation with a very dear friend and subscriber, I asked him if he had any ideas, or concepts he was thinking about for me to use as inspiration to compose a new piece for this months' "Subscriber Poetry Inspiration" segment. After some thought in which no concrete idea was forthcoming, I suggested an alternative approach. Perhaps he could give me three words and I could than incorporate those three words into any poem.

This time the idea came. He asked me if I had heard of a certain app called "What3words", which for a quick note, is a sort of navigation app people use. Almost immediately, the light bulb went on in my mind, and an idea began to take shape. I quickly told him that some idea was brewing and after ending the call, sat down to write.

Some time later, the poem was born and today I share it here.

What Three Words? - Subscriber Poetry Inspiration 2025-26 Poem 7

Sometimes, to make a difference,
All you need to say is three simple words,
Sometimes, the breakthrough to a shattered soul,
Is hidden in these three special, simple words.

These words are like a soft hug,
These words are the sparks of colour on a grey day,
These words, so simple, sometimes so pure,
Are also, sometimes, the easiest and hardest words to say.

Yet they carry so much meaning,
So much potential, so much wisdom and light,
There is so much to be written, so much to say about these words,
But sometimes the time, just isn’t right.

Because sometimes, you don’t need to hide behind vocabulary,
Or majestic phrases and inspiring descriptions, you see,
Sometimes all you need to say, is these three words,
To get through to the heart of a broken soul, just these three.

G-d whispers these words to us each day,
In our prayers, our good deeds and our learning His voice is there,
If you listen, just, you may hear it,
Listen and you will hear it just in one moment, sometime, somewhere.

What are these words, these three simple words,
That could make each persons day feel just so bright, lively and true?
Well, I am sure you guessed it by now,
But it is these words,
I Love You!
