A Comforting Flower - Poem

This week, I had the great zechus to be at the wedding of a very dear, beloved and close cousin of mine. It was a truly emotional and heartfelt experience, as any wedding should be, but for me personally it was extra special.

As we began the meal after the Chupah, an idea clicked in my head for a beautiful poem. A little bit of context is requred.

One of my cousin's names is Menachem and one of  his Kallah's names is Shoshana. Menachem in Hebrew (מנחם) has the root word Nachem (נחם) which means "comfort". Shoshana in Hebrew (ששנה) means "flower". If you put that all together, you get a very interesting title, that being, "Comforting Flower."

When that realization dawned me at the wedding, I decided to begin writing a poem based on it right than and there. Starting it off at that moment, I completed the following morning and now I am blessed and honoured to share it with you.

While I won't (and haven't to my knowledge) mentioned my cousin directly, I would like to say that this poem is dedicated to him and his Kallah. May they be zocheh to build a true Bayis Ne'eman Beyisroel with immense ברכה for many happy and healthy years together.

I know humbly invite you to read the poem,

I hope you enjoy it.

A Comforting Flower - Poem

In times of hardship, in times of pain,
When the skies are gloomy, when the skies are grey,
There is still comfort to be found in sorrow,
Still a silent promise of a happier tomorrow.

G-d has many ways to reassure us,
Many words, many promises, in which we trust,
But sometimes, we don't hear Him speak,
But his reassurance is sent, silently, discreet.

Sometimes, nature takes that call, to comfort us someway,
Whether a powerful sunset, a soft sunrise, or a drop of rain,
Sometimes comfort comes in the sweet bloom of flowers,
As they wave with the breeze at us, they return our energy, allow us to reclaim our powers.

The flower, a silent champion, one that sometimes, doesn't get to shine,
Overshadowed by the sky, the forest, and other breathtaking sights,
But the flower is always there, blooming, with its quietness and simplicity,
A hug of comfort from Hashem, when life seems to drown us in misery.

So, if you can try to find the flower, look for it if you wish to,
And those simple blessings in your life, that Hashem lovingly gives you,
Watch as it blooms, follow its melody, listen out for its song,
You may find yourself at peace, even dancing along.
