David and His Harp - Subscriber Poetry Inspiration 2025-26 Poem 9
In a recent conversation with a dear subscriber I was asked about composing a poem in honor of Shavuos. I had no real idea or concept straight away, however, the more we spoke, the more I thought until the idea to create a poem about King David or perhaps his harp, came to me.
I spoke more with him and left that conversation happy, looking forward to create something special based on this very special and beautiful concept.
I began writing something based around this concept last week, but it just was not clicking. When I went back to try again today, I discovered I had not saved my previous attempt, which meant I had to start from scratch. After a quick prayer, I began to type and after some minutes the final finished product sat before my eyes.
I am so excited and proud to share it with you now.
When you will be reading this, it will be after Yom Tov. Please do kindly note that the actual poem and posting itself was done today, on Tuesday. Either way it will be after Yom Tov that you will be reading this so I hope you all had a splendid time/
I hope you enjoy the reading.
All the very best, to you, my friends,
Yitzy Schweitzer
The harp stands tall
and proud,
On the stage as the musicians take their place,
The harp is there, so imposing yet welcoming,
As the conductor of the orchestra, conducts and the music begins to be played.
Every instrument, every note matters,
Every second of the composition will move you,
But there is something about the harp, you see,
That will comfort, inspire, motivate and soothe you.
See, the harp may look large and imposing,
But it’s sound is it’s authentic truth,
It’s a melody of peace, hope, courage, comfort and encouragement,
It’s notes are as beautiful as a flowers bloom
For the harp is more than your average instrument,
Its notes are more than tune and melody,
It is an instrument rich in sound and giant in structure,
It is the instrument of the prayers of our history.
The harp is the instrument of David,
Who was king over the nation of Israel,
The shepherd boy, ignored and shunned by his family,
Who G-d saw and selected, as a worthy successor to Shaul.
David was the author of the Psalms,
The words that have been our prayer for so many years,
Each word is filled with richness and holiness,
Each word has it’s story of joy, hope and tears.
David was the one who stood up Goliath,
With nothing more than bow, arrow and faith in the Al-mighty,
His courage, bravery, loyalty and dedication to Hashem’s truth,
Is what allowed him to be blessed with the promise of the Davidic dynasty.
Soon, David will take his harp once again,
As we sing a new song in front of the Third Temple of Hashem our King,
Its note will ring forth, still as magical as ever,
We will dance, united at last, our home Yerushalayim forever lasting
