Fragments of Our Reflection - Poem

This week, I had written a poem that I was ready to publish, yet as I prepared the post, I realized that I wanted to push the poem off to a later date as it fit in more appropriately with Tisha B'av. Feeling ready to reroute course for the week, I wandered for a moment about a concept idea before settling down to write it out.

As G-d's graciousness and unique guidance would have it to be, that second poem also did not make the cut as I felt I had misrepresented the concept I was working towards trying to share. Third time trying with a clearer understanding of what I wanted to share, a third new concept was the one that finally felt ready and here I am sharing it.

Fragments of Our Reflection - Poem

Sometimes, we feel as though, we are just playing ourselves in this life,
We don’t know who we truly are, we become a character in a game,
Lost in habits we don’t understand, negative emotions seem to distance us,
From who we really want to be, instead we live in sadness and shame.

We think we are bad, we believe our goodness has been defeated,
There is no hope for a return to the path, no hope for a second chance,
But within our soul, within it lies a spark of His truth, His love, and His light,
A spark of pure goodness, ready to become a brilliant flame, if we would only choose to advance.

We must try step by step, to ignite our darkened thoughts,
Set them aside as we create the light, that will shine brighter than before,
Life is a puzzle, life isn’t with all the answers, an imperfect performance is expected,
Sometimes we won’t see the source of our light, just fragments of our reflection.

What makes who we are, many wonderful things do,
Sometimes there is no real answer to that question I asked you,
But what creates a journey, one of the many steps involved,
Is understanding that with every good deed you do, your eternity evolves.

His spark has never died within you, it has just lain dormant,
But now it's time to awaken your inner truth and return to who you want to truly be,
Find your light, find the truth within your heart, let the world understand it,
As you spread your light, you will keep getting closer to your own special eternity.

It make take time, but soon it will come together,
The full picture will be seen, be looked at with pride,
Some may not know your story, what it took for you to arrive at this point,
But what’s important is you look at yourself and you feel happiness in your soul, inside.
