Unshatter - Poem

Last week, I had the idea to write a poem about picking up the broken, shattered pieces of ones life. That literally was the concept. I sat down, started writing and let the words build a world, craft a narrative, develop a story that I was happy and proud of.

I had one rule though that developed as I wrote this one. Every stanza must end with a rhyme or the same word. Examples are the repeated you in the end of every line in the first stanza, or the e being a connecting factor at the end of the second one.

As you make your way through this poem you will understand, not just my narrative but the rhyming convention as well.

I hope you enjoy it.

Have a brilliant week,

Your friend,

Unshatter - Poem

Walking away from those who love you,
To run towards the approval of those who despise you,
Turning towards the masked faces, of souls who will seek to destroy you,
Because you were broken by emotions that tried to overwhelm you.

Those who loved you stood on the side, wishing they could help,
Watching you waste your potential was so heartbreaking for them,
Even if you could not see it, they were standing right there,
Waiting for you to return home, to their embrace, to their care.

Is it not time to repair the broken chains?
Fix the relationships of truth that a hurt you once shamed?
Don’t you think, the paintings of youth and innocence could but be restored with added meaning and grace,
Pick up the image, make it unshattered and new, it’s not to late.

I know in your heart, you want to return, yet you feel as if its to far you’ve strayed,
But all He wants from you, is not a drastic change or long prayer,
He just needs you to come close, just a step, so He can tell you, it is safe, it’s okay,
He loves you, for He is your father, and He is telling you not to be afraid.

Some may say change is worthless, habits are to ingrained, it won’t last,
But do you really believe that or do you think you may just be scarred?
The wounds and scars of your past, are only there to remind you that you have come so far,
You must learn to look beyond the broken glass, to see the light radiating from the cracked shards.

He will guide you with care and tenderness, He will show you the way one step at a time,
He will hold your hand, as you walk forward and find the courage to make the climb,
He will not abandon, nor forsake you, He will stay with you until the end of the ride,
Until the last stop on the train, until the destination, you will, in peace, find.
