Parasha From A Poets Perspective: Parashas Lech Lecha - Personal Journey of Spirituality

The third week of "Parasha From A Poets Perspective" has landed. We have reached Parashas Lech Lecha, the portion of the Torah where Avraham Avinu (our forefather Avraham) was commanded by G-d to "Go for yourself", to leave everything behind, and travel "to the land to which I will show you."

Avraham was commanded to leave it all, his father's house, his home, and to travel on nothing more than faith alone, following the path throughout the lands until he reached the destination G-d had intended for him to reach.

Based on the concept of journeys and traveling one's own unique path in life, this poem is yet another one talking about how life is a journey, full of long and short stretches of travel. It also references the fact that one takes many journeys throughout every day (as an example or two, to shul or to the store) that seem rather usual and trivial but a Spiritual Journey is unique, it is different, it is beautiful and not basic or boring in the slightest.

Another point mentioned in the poem is that a Spiritual Journey is not tracked our measured by the amount of steps one takes, nor by the turns. Rather, it is measured by our deeds, our actions and is written by those things, including by the hands of the people who we inspire, motivate and make a difference to.

So, join me on a "Personal Journey of Spirituality," and follow the path of narrative together in written (and recorded) form. (Find the recorded format here

I hope you enjoy the poem

Parasha From A Poets Perspective: Parashas Lech Lecha - Personal Journey of Spirituality

A journey begins with a single step,
Towards a destination, a location on a map,
Each step you take will bring you closer,
Towards your own victory, the end of the lap.

Some journeys are long, some are over rather soon,
It all works out to where you need to go,
Some places are far away, another town or city,
Some are just a few steps across the road.

There are journeys we take every day,
Some are more trivial then others, it depends,
But each one of us has a personal journey of our very own,
Towards the Prescence of our Father in Heaven, Hashem.

G-d commanded our forefather Avraham,
To go for himself to the place where G-d will show him,
Each one of us, we take our own journey,
Towards our own truth, towards what we hold dear and believe in.

A spiritual journey is written not by how many steps,
Nor is it written by the twists and turn we take,
It is written by our deeds, by our kindness and our love,
It is written by our actions and the hands of the people in whose lives a difference we make.

One truth is that all our journeys are unique,
But there is but one other truth to,
No matter where we go, who we are, what we do on this road,
We know, deep within our souls that He loves us, we know its true
